As snarky as this paragraph may sound, it is true that the plan is utterly disastrous. The latest project is that a soul with a vast size has escaped the reaper. The verticality is indeed absent because of the overhead view. However, there are plenty of “aha” moments where you can be amazed at the clever nesting of the game’s world in a new. For example, ravines lead to villages, leading you to an edifice, from which you can descend to the lowest point of the canyon by using an escalator and then continue to the boss. Death’s Door celebrates its climax in the mansion of the Urn Witch, so reminiscent of the path that leads to the Sen’s Fortress that you’d expect giants and contortionists. However, as wildly over-the-top as Pot Head, maybe it’s good that the character doesn’t become a laughing stock or even a mere allusion to Dark Souls. With a few fun modifications and a melancholic tale of life and death, The creators manage to give the story depth. It’s not a typical Devolver story. The standard Devolver humor. The legend of the infamous Onion Knights concludes tragically by triggering an unsettling family tragedy is funny but is nevertheless thought-provoking.

Pot Head, however, is only one instance of the numerous references that come together in the game to praise Zelda, Borderlands, the Souls series and Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, and even classics that are almost forgotten, such as The Legend of Dragoon (well is anyone still remembering the melancholy piano melody that was a part of the village in Bale?).
